How to clean knit hats. Let the water run over the entire surface of the hat both inside and outside to rinse all of the detergent and dirty water off of the hat. Run the washing machine on the spin only cycle and then remove the knit hat. Place the hat on a thick cotton towel and blot away as much moisture as possible. Allow the hat to air dry. Lay it out flat on a towel and arrange it in its original shape.
If you re still nervous about washing your beanie take it to the dry. Heat may cause your hat to shrink. You can speed the process up by running an electric fan nearby on low power but do not use a hot blow dryer. Spot clean the hat first as needed. After you remove the hat place the hat on the pump mold and spritz it with a gentle mist of cleaning spray then gently comb the brim and cap of the hat with the cleaning brush to keep it looking nice.
Let it soak for about 5 minutes. For wool fibers choose a detergent formula developed just for wool that contains lanolin such as eucalan. Knit or crocheted hats that are made from natural fibers like wool or cotton or flax or from a blended yarn of the fibers should be handwashed in cool water. Submerge the cap and allow to soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Use the cleaning brush each time you wear the hat.
Place the knit hat in a location with good air circulation. Submerge your hat and gently squeeze it repeatedly to absorb and release the water. Start the washing machine on a cold cycle and allow it to fill at least halfway with water before adding your knit hat. Swish the hat around do not wring and then rinse well until no suds are seen. After first dipping the hat in the water of your bucket or sink use a toothbrush or other small scrubber to rub the cleaner into the fabric.
Rinse the hat for two or three minutes. It ll show you exactly how to wash your beanies or knit hats especially if they are on the more delicate and elastic side. Wash with like colors a full load works best and allow the load to soak in cold water with mild detergent for at least an hour. If the hat is extra dirty drain the sink and repeat the washing process. If there are areas that are especially problematic spot clean them with a dab of cleaning product right on the hat.
